THE MESOLITHIC
The Middle Stone Age
These objects belonged to Mesolithic humans. While still nomadic, these early humans were already settling in certain places for longer periods. During the previous several millennia the climate had grown warmer, but it still was colder than in our present times. Humans’ flint-splitting skills were evolving, with new ways of making tools emerging across Northern Europe. Fishing and catching small animals became increasingly important ways of finding food, and for that reason Mesolithic humans made a wide range of tools from the bones and horns of hunted animals.
